One of my inspirations and a true role model for women is Wendy Nguyen and her wonderful blog “Wendy’s Lookbook”. Prior to coming across Wendy’s “25 Ways to Wear a Scarf“, most fashion blogs and website had seemed to me to be shallow, money-sucking endeavours. I was brought up with the school of thought that one’s appearance was to be clean and tidy, but not necessarily attractive, enjoyable and creative. Spending money on one’s appearance was frivilous and wasteful. While I still think dresses and shoes costing thousands upon thousands of pounds ludicrous in a world full of debt and poverty (even in my home country), Wendy’s innocent and engaging delight in the palette of an outfits’ colours or new dress shape has helped me find a balance in pride of appearance and sincerity of spirit.
It’s clear from Wendy’s “About” page and regular updates that her life has not been easy and her passion for fashion is crossed with her fervour to help the foster care system youth in her country, of which she grew up in. You have only to read Wendy’s viewers’ comments to see that her message and mission is much more than stitches and leather and crosses over into strength, hope and positivity that everyone can find comfort in, regardless of the labels they wear. Her sense of humour, lust for life, love for family and entreprenuerial attitude are to be commended. Well worth frequent visits for inspiration for the wardrobe and soul.
